When a bonus tool shows upgrade prompts despite paying, check which features are activated on your Dashboard Profile and whether your plan includes that specific bonus feature.
Before you start
Bonus features are separate from free core search. Six main bonus tools exist: Favourites (star icon on case pages), Custom Notes, Tag Judgments, Organizer (/organizer), Annotations (text selection on judgments), and Search History (Dashboard tab). Plans differ:
- Trial, Student, Biz Plus - all bonus features included automatically
- Starter - choose 1 feature at signup
- Pro Plus - choose 2 features at signup
Activation flags on your account (activ_fav, activ_notes, activ_tags, activ_org, activ_annotate, activ_history) must be set to 1 for each tool to work.
Steps
- Log in and open Dashboard → Profile.
- Note your Subscription Plan and Subscription Expires on - expired plans disable all bonus tools even if they were previously activated.
- Read the Value Added Services/features activated row - this is the authoritative list for your account.
- Match the missing tool to its requirement:
- Star / Favourite → Favourites activated
- Note button modal → Custom Notes activated
- Tag button → Tag Judgments activated
- Organizer at
/organizer→ Organizer activated - Text highlight on judgment → Annotations activated
- Search History tab → Search History activated
- If the feature is not listed but your plan should include it:
- Starter/Pro Plus: you may have picked different features at signup - only selected features activate.
- Trial/Student/Biz Plus: all should appear - if not, subscription activation may be incomplete.
- Try the feature again on a judgment page after confirming the list.
- To change activated features, email [email protected] with your account email and requested feature names (changes after signup are handled by admin).
- To gain more features, consider upgrading to Biz Plus or a plan that bundles all bonus tools.
What you'll see
When a feature is not activated:
- Favourite star may link to upgrade pages instead of toggling
- Note / Tag redirect to
/notes/or/tags/with subscription messaging - Organizer redirects to Pricing
- Annotations index shows not activated messaging
- Search History tab shows This Bonus Feature is not activated for your subscription!
When activated and subscription is valid, tools work inline without upgrade redirects.
Common mistakes
- Paying for Starter and expecting all six bonus tools - Starter includes only one chosen feature.
- Logging in successfully but ignoring expiry date - an expired Trial still logs you in while disabling bonus flags.
- Trying to activate features from judgment pages - activation is account-level, set at signup or by admin.
Tips
- Before Starter/Pro Plus checkout, decide which tools you need most (often Favourites + Notes for research, Organizer for practice management).
