Founder
Lakshman Srikanth D
Founder & Chief Architect
Born into a family of advocates in Chintamani, Lakshman grew up watching his parents - Adv. D.L. Prasad and Adv. Rekha Prasad - spend long evenings paging through judgment books at their century-old law firm. When a commercial research product arrived promising relief, it took roughly ten clicks and often returned nothing useful. That frustration, and his mother’s guidance as the “genius behind the product,” sparked an idea in 2008: build Indian legal search that felt as simple as Google - one phrase, one click, the relevant law.
Research began that March. He spoke with advocates frustrated by existing tools, structured the data, and iterated through beta after beta. LegalCrystal launched on 21 June 2010 at the High Court of Karnataka. Word of mouth did the rest: district and taluk judges lined up after demos; customers from Bangalore to Mysore to Chintamani trusted a product built for people who live by precedent. The mission was never small - every advocate, in every corner of India, should hold a complete library at their fingertips.
Years of shipping followed: better search, headnotes, cloud notes, and LegalCrystal Corporate for firms and in-house counsel - always guided by the hard lessons of a bootstrap startup: hire passion, price for trust, let ego go, and push through the three stages of building anything that lasts. In 2020, LegalCrystal was acquired by Mr. Narendra Soorabathula of Res Ipsa - a chapter that honored what the early team had built and opened the next one. Today that same conviction powers SooperKanoon: Indian legal research that stays useful as the practice of law evolves.
