Semantic AI Search
Semantic AI Search is an AI Studio feature on SooperKanoon search bars. Turn on the toggle, type a question in plain English, and GPT refines your query into keywords optimized for each search module.
Supported searches
| Module | What AI optimizes for | |--------|------------------------| | Judgments (home, Cases, case pages, Latest) | Indian court judgments - acts, sections, issues, citations | | Bare Acts | Act titles, sections, and statutory headings | | Privy Council | Historical Privy Council appeal subjects | | Dictionary | Legal maxims and defined terms | | LegalDraft Studio (Forms) | Petitions, agreements, notices, and court formats | | Infographic | Legal topics for court/year charts |
Personal tools (Tags, Annotations, Organizer) do not use Semantic AI Search.
How to use it
- Open any supported search bar above.
- Enable Semantic AI Search (toggle below the field).
- Enter your query - full sentences or partial phrases work.
- Press Search. AI runs when you submit - turning the toggle on does not change results already on screen.
- When the phrase changes, the results page shows what AI searched for.
- Already viewing keyword results? Turn the toggle on, then click Search again with AI (or press Search) to re-run with AI.
- On judgment search, click Search original query on the results banner to run your exact words.
Who can use it
- Requires AI Studio (
activ_ai_summary) on an active paid or AI Preview plan. - Guests see the toggle and can open AI Studio to learn more.
Limits
- No daily rewrite cap - included with your AI Studio subscription. Access is gated by login and
activ_ai_summary; citation and single-word queries bypass AI entirely.
What it does not do
- It does not change ranking, filters, or excerpts - only the seed phrase before the normal search pipeline runs.
- Advanced judgment routing (citation lookup, advanced search fields) applies to Judgments search only.
- It is not available on Tags, Annotations, or Organizer (personal libraries).
Tips
- Bare act lookup: Searching an act by name (e.g. specific relief act) keeps your act - AI may fix spelling or add the standard year, but will not tack on extra sections or remedies.
- Bare act discovery: Ask a topic in plain English (e.g. law on cheque bounce) and AI will suggest the governing act and likely sections.
- Use natural language on judgment search: Can I get anticipatory bail in a money laundering case?
- Citations like
AIR 1995 SC 48are passed through unchanged. - If AI cannot refine safely, search proceeds with your original query.
