Sign in with your SooperKanoon account. This demo uses a trial login with AI Studio already active. Semantic AI Search refines plain-English questions into keywords before SooperKanoon runs the normal search engine. Open Cases search — the toggle sits below the search field. With AI Studio active, Semantic AI Search is usually already on — look for AI active beside the switch. If the switch is off, click it once to enable refinement before you search. With the toggle on, type a sentence in the search box — for example, cases on dowry harassment in marriage. Press Search. When refinement runs, a banner shows your original words and the keywords SooperKanoon searched for. Citation strings and very short one-word queries skip AI and search as typed. Semantic AI Search also does not run on Tags, Annotations, or Organizer — use it on the main module search bars only. You kept Semantic AI Search on, ran a plain-English query, and read the refinement banner on results. Next, read Bonus feature quotas for daily limits on other AI Studio tools.

60-second version

  • Enable Semantic AI Search on supported search bars (Cases, Bare Acts, Dictionary, Forms, and more).
  • Type a question in plain English; AI refines it into keywords before the normal search pipeline runs.
  • On judgment results, read the refinement banner for intent summary, filter chips, and Search original query.

In one sentence

Semantic AI Search turns natural-language legal questions into module-specific keywords while keeping ranking, filters, and excerpts unchanged - included with AI Studio on your Profile.

Before you start

Requires AI Studio activated on an active paid or AI Preview plan. Guests see the toggle for discovery but must log in to run AI refinement. Citation strings (e.g. AIR 1995 SC 48) and very short queries bypass AI and search as typed. Tags, Annotations, and Organizer do not support Semantic AI Search.

Steps

  1. Open any supported search bar (homepage, Cases, Bare Acts, Dictionary, Forms, Privy Council, Infographic, or Latest).
  2. Enable Semantic AI Search (toggle below the field).
  3. Enter your query - full sentences or partial phrases work.
  4. Press Search. AI runs on submit; turning the toggle on does not change results already on screen.
  5. On judgment search results, review the Semantic AI Search banner when it appears:
  • Intent summary - one-line explanation of what AI understood.
  • Your query vs Searched for - original words and the optimized phrase.
  • Filters applied chips - court, year, sort, citation mode, or advanced routing when AI detected them.
  1. Click Search original query on the banner to re-run with your exact words (adds semantic_skip so AI does not run again).
  2. Already viewing keyword results? Turn the toggle on, then click Search again with AI or press Search to re-run with AI.

Supported searches

| Module | What AI optimizes for | |--------|------------------------| | Judgments (home, Cases, case pages, Latest) | Indian court judgments - acts, sections, issues, citations | | Bare Acts | Act titles, sections, and statutory headings | | Privy Council | Historical Privy Council appeal subjects | | Dictionary | Legal maxims and defined terms | | LegalDraft Studio (Forms) | Petitions, agreements, notices, and court formats | | Infographic | Legal topics for court/year charts |

What you'll see

When AI refines your query, a banner above the results explains the change. If AI kept your exact keywords, the banner says it reviewed your query rather than refined it. Filter chips appear when AI routes to citation lookup, advanced fields, or applies court/year constraints. If AI cannot refine safely or the service is busy, search proceeds with your original query and the banner may note that.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting Semantic AI Search to change ranking or excerpts - it only changes the seed phrase (and optional routing filters) before the normal pipeline.
  • Turning the toggle on without pressing Search again - existing results stay until you submit.
  • Using Semantic AI Search on Tags or Organizer - those personal libraries are not supported.

Tips

  • Bare act lookup: Searching an act by name (e.g. specific relief act) keeps your act - AI may fix spelling or add the standard year.
  • Bare act discovery: Ask a topic in plain English (e.g. law on cheque bounce) and AI suggests the governing act and likely sections.
  • Use natural language on judgment search: Can I get anticipatory bail in a money laundering case?
  • Citations like AIR 1995 SC 48 pass through unchanged.
  • Advanced judgment routing (citation lookup, advanced search fields) applies to Judgments search only.
  • See Search by keyword for free keyword search without AI.

Limits

No daily rewrite cap - included with your AI Studio subscription. Access is gated by login and AI Studio activation on your Profile.

Quick answers

Does Semantic AI Search change ranking?
No. Only your search phrase (and optional routing filters) is refined; relevance and excerpts use the existing engine.
What is the daily limit?
No daily rewrite cap for standard Semantic AI Search. Access is gated by AI Studio activation. Citations and single-word queries bypass AI.
