.....Definition In this Act, the expression "thika tenant" and "Bharatia" have the meanings respectively assigned to them in the Calcutta Thika Tenancy Act, 1949. Section 3 Stay of proceedings for ejectment of thika tenants Notwithstanding anything contained in the Calcutta Thika Tenancy Act, 1949, or in any other law for the time being in force, (a) all applications for ejectment of thika tenants, (b) all appeals from orders made on such applications, and (c) all proceedings in execution of orders for ejectment of thika tenants, under the provisions of the Calcutta Thika Tenancy Act, 1949, which are pending at the date of commencement of this Act or which may be made, preferred or commenced after such date but before the expiry of this Act, in respect of any land which is not a 'vacant land' within the meaning of the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, 1976, shall be stayed for the period during which this Act continues in force. Section 4 Stay of suits and proceedings against Bharatias No thika tenant shall, while this Act continues in force, commence, or continue with, any suit, appeal or proceedings in execution of orders, for ejectment of any Bharatia and all pending.....

(2) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint , SECTION 2: Definitions: In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "Chief Law Officer" and "Law Officer" mean, respectively, the Chief Law Officer and a Law Officer of the Coast Guard appointed under (section 115); (b) "civil offence" means an offence which is triable by a criminal Court. Short title This Act may be called the Coast Guard (Amendment) Act, 2002. 2. Amendment of section 2 In section 2 of the Coast Guard Act, 1978 (30 of 1978) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in clause (w), for the words "or a Sahayak Engineer", the words", a Sahayak Engineer or a Pradhan Yantrik" shall be substituted. 3. Amendment of section 25 In section 25 of the principal Act, for sub-section (2), the following shall be substituted, namely:-- "(2) Every person who deserts or attempts to desert the Coast Guard shall, on conviction by a Coast Guard Court, be liable to suffer imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years or such less punishment as is in this Act mentioned and in every such case he shall forfeit,-- (a) all pay, salvage, prize.....

(a) all armed mutineers, armed rebels, armed rioters, pirates and any person in arms against whom it is the duty of any person subject to this Act to take action; and (b) any person or persons engaged in smuggling, unlawful exploration or exploitation or any other unlawful activity in the maritime zones of India. After the take over of the management of the undertakings of the Company, The production in the Company, which had come to a standstill in November, 1972, has progressively improved. The net losses have come down from the level of Rs. 80 lakhs for the year ending March, 1973 to Rs.9 lakhs for the year ending March, 1977 and during 1977-78 they expect to achieve a nominal net profit of Rs.1 lakh. After careful consideration of the whole matter and with a view to improving the technical and economic viability of the undertakings, the Central Government have decided to acquire the undertakings of the Company and vest them in the State Government of Gujarat. 2. At the time of take over of the management of the undertakings of the Company, it was clear that it was not possible for the Company to meet all its past dues. Title: Period of Limitation for Trial of Offences Under the Act

(2) Without prejudice to the provisions of sub-section (1), the Central Government may render such assistance in such manner as it may deem fit to any notified sugar undertaking to enable the undertaking to clear the whole or any part of its arrears of cane dues so as to avoid undue hardship to cane producing farmers. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Twenty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:- SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, COMMENCEMENT AND APPLICATION (1) This Act may be called the Metro Railways (Construction of Works) Act, 1978. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
