THE KARNATAKA SELECTION OF CANDIDATES FOR ADMISSION TO MEDICAL, DENTAL AND ENGINEERING COURSES (SPECIAL PROVISIONS) ACT, 2004 [Act No. 24 Of 2004] [30th July 2004] PREAMBLE An Act to make special provisions for the selection of candidates and admission to professional institutions in the State. Whereas it is expedient to provide for selection of candidates for admission to professional institutions in the State and for matters incidental thereto and connected therewith, in the light of principles laid down by the Constitution Bench in the TMA Pai's case and subsequent pronouncements. Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the fifty-fifth year of Republic of India, as follows:-

.....or State Government or by the Authority for anything which is in good faith done or intended to be done in pursuance of the provisions of this Act. Section 31A - Removal of difficulties 1 [31A. Removal of difficulties (1) If any difficulty arises ingiving effect to the provisions of the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques(Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Amendment Act, 2002, theCentral Government may, by order published in the OfficialGazette, make such provisions not inconsistent with the provisions of the saidAct as appear to it to be necessary or expedient for removing the difficulty: Providedthat no order shall be made under thissection after the expiry of a period of three years from the date ofcommencement of the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Preventionof Misuse) Amendment Act, 2002. Title: Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Amendment Act, 2002

.....to use of pre-natal diagnostic techniques, sex selection techniques and against their misuse; (ii) to review and monitor implementation of the Act and rules made thereunder and recommend to the Central Government changes in the said Act and rules; (iii) to create public awareness against the practice of pre-conception sex selection and pre-natal determination of sex of foetus leading to female foeticide; (iv) to lay down code of conduct to be observed by persons working at Genetic Counselling Centres, Genetic Laboratories and Genetic Clinics; (v) to oversee the performance of various bodies constituted under the Act and take appropriate steps to ensure its proper and effective implementation; (vi) any other functions as may be prescribed under the Act.". 14. .....Staff Selection Commission (E) "Member" means the member of Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (F) "Rules" means the rules framed under this Act. Section 3 - Constitution of Commission The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission shall be constituted as follows :- [A] Chairman - An officer of the Indian Administrative Service, appointed by the State Government not below the rank: of Super-time Scale with at least three years of service remaining. .....of the Energy Department, Government of Karnataka, shall act as the convenor of the selection committee. (3) (a) The selection committee shall act expeditiously and shall generally finalise the selection to enable the State Government to make the appointment in time for the new members to take effective charge at the expiry of the term of the retiring member and without delay and generally within two months of vacancy arising for reasons other than the expiry of the term; (b) The method and manner of the selection and appointment of members and designation of one of the members as Chairman shall be as may be prescribed; (c) For the purposes of selection, the selection committee may call for application from individuals or nomination from such sources and in such other manner as the selection committee may consider appropriate.
