.....Pt. V, p. 139. An Act for the improvement of Law Reports. 1[* * * *] SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE This Act may be called The Indian Law Reports Act, 1875. Local extent. It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir]; Commencement. And it shall come into force on such day as the [Central Government] notifies in this behalf in the [Official Gazette]. SECTION 02: REPEAL OF ACT 2 OF 1875 - [Repealed by the Repealing Act, 1876 (12 of 1876).] SECTION 03: AUTHORITY GIVEN ONLY TO AUTHORISED REPORTS No Court shall be bound to hear cited, or shall receive or treat as an authority binding on it, the report of any case 6[decided by any High Court for7[State]], other than a report published under the authority of 8[any State Government]. SECTION 04: AUTHORITY OF JUDICIAL DECISIONS Nothing herein contained shall be construed to give to any judicial decision any further or other author had if this Act had not been passed. Bombay Judicial Proceedings (Regulation of Reports) Act, 1955, (Maharashtra) Section 3

Title: Restrictions on Publication of Reports of Judicial Proceedings

.....the names of the parties; and (2) the order of the Court; (c) in respect of any judicial proceedings in connection with an offence under sections 354, 366, 366A, 366B, 376, 377 or 498 of the Indian Penal Code, Penal Code, any particulars other than the following, that is to say:- (1) the name, occupation and address of the accused; and (2) the order of the Court, without disclosing the iden tity of, or giving any particulars calculated to lead to the identification of, any person who may have been a victim of the offence : Provided that, nothing in this section shall apply to the printing of any pleading, transcript of evidence or other document for use in connection with any judicial proceedings or the communication thereof to persons concerned in the proceedings or to the printing or publishing of any notice or report in pursuance of the directions of the Court or to the printing or publishing of any matter in a separate volume or part of any bona fide series of law reports or in any publication of a technical character bona fide intended for circulation among members of the legal or medical professions.

Title: Short Title

This Act may be called the Indian Law Reports Act, 1875. Local extent.- It extends to the whole of India {Subs.by Act 3 of 1951 for "except Part B States".}[except the State of Jammu and Kashmir; Commencement.- And it shall come into force on such day {1st January, 1876, vide Notification No.22, dated the 23rd November, 1875, Gazette of India, 1875, Part I, p.589.} as the Central Government notifies in this behalf in the Official Gazette.

Bombay Judicial Proceedings (Regulation of Reports) Act, 1955 Complete Act

.....Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, (V of 1898) are hereby amended as specified in the Schedule to this Act and the provisions of the said section as amended shall, notwithstanding anything contained in section 4, apply in respect of any newspaper, book or document, which appears to the State Government to contain any matter in contravention of the provisions of this Act SECTION 08: OPERATION OF OTHER LAWS Nothing herein contained shall be deemed to prevent any person from being prosecuted under any other law for any act which is an offence under this Act. SCHEDULE (See section 7.) In section 99-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 after the words "appears to the State Government to contain" the words "in respect of any judicial proceedings any indecent or obscene matter or any indecent or obscene details whether medical, surgical or physiological, which would be calculated to injure the public morals, or" shall be inserted. .....to it under the Taxation on Income(Investigation Commission) Act, 1947 (XXX of 1947), and shall be entitled to act forthe same term as under sub-section (3) of section 4 of that Act: (bb)any decision given, whether before or after the commencement of this Act, by theChief Revenue Authority of Travancore or of Travancore-Cochin in the exercise orpurported exercise of any powers conferred on it by any law for the time beingin force in the State shall be deemed to be a decision given by the Income-taxauthority for the purposes of sub-section (2) of section 8 of the TravancoreTaxation on Income (Investigation Commission) Act, 1124 (Travancore Act XIV of1124);] (c) any reference in the State law, by whatever form ofwords, to the State Government or the State Commission shall, in relation toincome other than agricultural income, be construed as a reference to theCentral Government or the Central Commission, as the case may be ; (d) the report of the Central Commission shall besubmitted to the Central Government, and the Central Government may, by order inwriting, direct that such proceedings as it thinks fit under the law in force inthe State relating to income-tax, super-tax.....
