THE KERALA PANCHAYAT RAJ (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1998 ACT 8 OF 1998 THE KERALA PANCHAYAT RAJ (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1998 An Act further to amend the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 Preamble.--WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, for the purposes hereinafter appearing; BE it enacted in the Forty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- 1. Short title and commencement.--(1) This Act may be called the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Act, 1998. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 10th day of November, 1997 2. THE KERALA STATE RURAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1998 THE KERALA STATE RURAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1998 [Act No. 18 of 1998] PREAMBLE An Act further to amend the Kerala State Rural Development Board Act, 1971. WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Kerala State Rural Development Board Act, 1971, for the purposes hereinafter appearing; Be it enacted in the Forty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- Section 1 - Short title and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Kerala State Rural Development Board (Amendment) Act, 1998. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 5th day of January; 1994. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 2nd day of June, 1998. 2. Amendment of section 3.--In the Calicut University (Amendment) Act, 1997 (2 of 1998), in sub-section (2) of section 3, for the words "within a period of one year", the words "within a period of two years" shall be substituted. 3. Repeat and saving.--(1) The Calicut University (Amendment) Amending Ordinance, 1998 (9 of 1998), is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Calicut University (Amendment) Act, 1997, as amended by the said ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the Calicut University (Amendment) Act, 1997, as amended by this Act. Amendment of section 5.--In section 5 of the Guruvayur Devaswom Act, 1978 (14 of 1978) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in sub-section (1), for the words "two years", the words "four years" shall be substituted. 3. Amendment of section 21.--In section 21 of the principal Act, for clause (c) of sub-section (2), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:-- "(c) the construction, repair, maintenance and renovation of buildings connected with the Devaswom; and". 4. Amendment of section 27.--In section 27 of the principal Act,-- (i) after clause (e), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:-- "(ee) the construction of buildings connected with the affairs of the Devaswom;"; (ii) in clause (f), for the words "Sanskrit Language", the words "Sanskrit or Malayalam Language" shall be substituted. 5. Repeal and saving.--(1) The Guruvayur Devaswom (Amendment) Ordinance, 1998 (3 of 1998), is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the principal Act, as amended by the said Ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the principal Act, as amended by this Act. .....

Pre-degree course to continue to be affiliated to the Calicut University."Notwithstanding anything contained in any other provisions of this Act or in the Calicut University Act, 1975 (5 of 1975), Pre-degree courses in colleges within the areas referred to in sub-section (1) of section 96 shall continue to be affiliated to the Calicut University and the University constituted under this Act shall provide for instruction of students of such courses in accordance with the course of study in the Calicut University and comply with such directions as may be given to it by the Calicut University in respect of that course of study.". 3.Repeal and saving.-(1) The Kannur University (Amendment) Ordinance, 1998 (1 of 1998), is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or deemed to have been done or any action taken or deemed to have been taken under the Kannur University Act, 1996 (22 of 1996), as amended by the said Ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the said Act, as amended by this Act.
