Specially denatured spirit

Specially denatured spirit, Rule 1(iii) provides that specially denatured spirit means rendered unfit for human consumption in such manner as may be prescribed by the Emise Commissioner by notification in this behalf and does not include ordinary denatured spirit for general use, State of Uttar Pradesh v. Motor spirit

Motor spirit is defined by s. 84 of the (English) Finance (1909-10) Act, 1910, as:-Any inflammable hydrocarbon (including any mixture of hydrocarbons and any liquid containing hyrdocarbon), which is capable of being used for providing reasonably efficient motive power for a motor car.Means any hydrocarbon oil (excluding crude mineral oil) used as fuel in spark ignition engines which conforms to such specifications, as the Central Government may, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards, notify from time to time. Intoxicating liquor, the word 'intoxicating liquor' is not confined to potable liquor alone but would include all liquor which contain alcohol. Liquor should not only cover alcoholic liquor which is generally used for beverage purposes wand produce intoxication but would also include liquids containing alcohol, State of U.P. v. Liquor, The word 'liquor' as understood in India at the time of the Government of India Act, 1935, covered not only those alcoholic liquids which are generally used for beverage purposes and produce intoxication, but also all liquids containing alcohol, the definition of liquor contained in section 2(24) of the Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949 is not therefore ultra vires.
