Derivative of opium, S. 2(bb) 'derivative of opium' means:(i) Medicinal opium, that is opium which has undergone the processes necessary to adapt it for medicinal use,(ii) Prepared opium, that is, any product of opium obtained by any series of operations designed to transform opium into an extract suitable for smoking, and the dross or other residue remaining after opium is smoked,(iii) Morphine, that is, the principal alkaloid of opium having the chemical formula c17H19No3, and its salts, and its derivatives. Opium derivative

Opium derivative, means:(a) medicinal opium, that is, opium which has undergone the processes necessary to adopt it for medicinal use in accordance with the requirements of the Indian Pharmacopoeia or any other pharmacopoeia notified in this behalf by the Central Government, whether in powder form or granulated or otherwise or mixed with neutral material;(b) prepared opium, that is, any product of opium obtained by any series of operations designed to transform opium into an extract suitable for smoking and the dross or other residue remaining after opium is smoked;(c) phenanthrene alkaloids, namely, morphine, codeine, thebaine and their salts;(d) diacetylmorphine, that is, the alkaloid also known as diamorphine or heroin and its salts; and(e) all preparations containing more than 0.2 per cent of morphine or containing any diacetyl morphine. Opium

Opium, means:(1) the capsules of the poppy (papaver somniferum L), whether in their original form or cut, crushed or powdered and whether or not juice has been extracted therefrom;(2) the spontaneously coagulated juice of such capsules which has not been submitted to any manipulation other than those necessary for packing and transport; and(3) any mixture, with or without neutral materials, of any o the above forms of opium. [Medicinal and Toilet Preparations (Excise Duties) Act, 1955 (16 of 1955), s. 2(i)]It means--(a) the coagulated juice of the opium poppy; and(b) any mixture, with or without any neutral material, of the coagulated juice of the opium poppy. Opium poppy

Opium poppy, means:(a) the plant of the species Papaver somniferum L., and(b) the plant of any other species of Papaver from which opium or any phenanthrene alkaloid can be extracted and which the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, declare to be opium poppy for the purposes of this Act. Drugs, Dangerous

Drugs, Dangerous. The importation, exportation, manufacture, sale, and use of opium and other dangerous drugs is regulated by the (English) Dangerous Drugs Act, 1920 to 1932. Raw opium may only be imported and exported under license and at approved ports, and regulations are authorized for restricting its production, possession, sale, and distribution. The importation or exportation of opium prepared for smoking is absolutely prohibited. Medicinal opium, morphine, cocaine, ecgonine, heroin, and new drugs specified by Order in Council may only be imported or exported by license: their manufacture and sale are regulated. Wide powers of arrest are given to the police and severe penalties provided for offenders against these Acts. The (English) Extradition Act, 1932 (22 & 23 Geo. 5, c. 39), includes offences in relation to dangerous drugs and attempts to commit such offences, among extradition crimes.
