Industry, 'Industrial dispute' and 'workman' taken in the extended significance, or exclude it. Though the word 'undertaking' in definition of industry is wedged in between business and trade on the one hand and manufacture on the other, and though therefore it might mean only a business or trade undertaking, still it must be remembered that if that were so, there was no need to use the word separately from business or trade. The wider import is attracted even more clearly when we look at the latter part of the definition which refers to 'calling, service, employment, or industrial occupation of, avocation of workman. 'Undertak-ing' in the first part of the definition and 'industrial occupation or avocation in the second part obviously mean much more than what is ordinarily understood by trade or business. Industrial dispute
Industrial dispute, means any dispute or difference between employers and employers, or between employers and workmen, or between workmen and workmen, which is connected with the employment or non-employment or the terms of employment or with the conditions of labour, of any persons. Industrial undertaking
Industrial undertaking, means any undertaking pertaining to a scheduled industry carried on in one or more factories by any company but does not include--(i) an ancillary industrial undertaking as defined in clause (aa) of s. 3 of the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951; and(ii) a small scale industrial undertaking as defined in clause (j) of the aforesaid s. 3. Industrial and Provident Societies
Industrial and Provident Societies. The (English) Statutes regulating these societies, 25 & 26Vict. c. 87, 30 & 31 Vict. c. 117, and 34 & 35 Vict. c. 80, were consolidated by the Industrial and Provident Societies Act, 1876 (39 & 40 Vict. c. 45), which by s. 6 provided for the registration of societies 'for carrying on any labour, trade, or handicraft, in-cluding the buying or selling of land, of which no member shall claim an interest in the funds exceeding 200l.'This Act was repealed and re-enacted with amend-ment by the (English) Industrial and Provident Societies Act, 1893 (56 & 57 Vict. c. 39), which pro-vides for the registration as an industrial and provident society of any society for carrying on any 'industries, businesses, trades specified in or authorized by its rules, whether wholesale or retail, and including dealings of every description with land,' but enacts that no member other than a registered society shall have any interest in the shares exceeding 200l. and contains...
Village industry
Village industry, means:(i) any industry located in rural area which produces any goods or renders any service with or without the use of power and in which the fixed capital investment per head of an artisan or a worker does not exceed fifty thousand rupees or such other sum as may, by notification in the Official Gazette, be specified from time to time by the State Govern-ment:Provided that any industry specified in the schedule and located in an area other than a rural area and recognized as a village industry prior to coming into force of this Act shall notwithstanding anything contained in this sub-clause, continue to be a village industry under this Act.(ii) any other non-manufacturing unit established for the sole purpose of promoting, maintaining, assist-ing, servicing (including other units) or managing, any village industry.(iii) Any other industry specified in this behalf by the State Government, by notification in the Official Gazette, in consultation with the Board. Industrial assurance
Industrial assurance. See the (English) Industrial Assurance Act, 1923 (repealing the Collecting Societies and Industrial Assurance Companies Act, 1896), which consolidates and amends the law relating to industrial assurance. The Act gives increased protection to the poorer classes of assured persons in respect of life insurance business the premiums upon which are received by collectors at intervals of less than two months. 'Industrial assurance funds' (life funds) cannot be made security for a loan other than a temporary bank overdraft. The Act contains important provisions as to forfeiture and surrender of policies, accounts and inspection, and the printing of portions of the Act on policies so as to draw the attention of policy-holders to rights conferred by the Act. Industrial establishment, means an industrial undertaking or a company as defined under s. 3 of the Companies Act, 1956 or a firm registered unders. 59 of the Indian Partnership Act, 1932 which is engaged in any industry, or in any trade, business or service.
