Fire brigade. The (English) Metropolitan Fire Brigade Act, 1855 (28 & 29 Vict. c. 90), intrusts to the London County Council, which has superseded the Metropolitan Board of Works, the duty of extinguishing fires in the metropolis. On the occasion of a fire the chief officer of the fire brigade may take any measures that appear expedient for the protection of life and property by s. 12 of the Act; and in other districts by s. 89 of the (English) Public Health Acts Amendment Act, 1907 (7 Edw. 7, c. 53).
