Advocate General, defined. [Indian Bar Councils Act, (38 of 1926), s. 2(b)

--referred in Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 (70 of 1971), s. 15.

Means the principal law officer of a State: appointed by the Governor to give advice to the Government of the State upon such legal matters, and to perform such other duties of a legal character as may be referred or assigned to him by the Governor. [Constitution of India, Article 165(1) & (2)]
