Trunk Roads Act, 1936 (English) (1 Edw. 8 & 1 Geo. 6, c. 5), provides that the Minister of Transport shall be the highway authority for the principal roads in Great Britain which constitute the national system of routes for through traffic. Such roads which become Trunk Roads are set out in the Schedule.
By s. 13 road means a highway and includes any part of a highway and any prepared road and any bridge over which a highway passes or a proposed road is intended to pass, and trunk road shall be construed accordingly
