Definition :

Trade and commerce, means every business occupation carried on for subsistence or profit and involving the elements of bargain and sale, burter, exchange, or traffic, Black's Law Dictionary, 7th Edn., p. 1500.

The words 'trade and commerce' in s. 3 of the Essential Supplies (Temporary Powers) Act, 1946, could be interpreted as including the export of goods outside the Province including a neighbour-ing foreign State, Darshan Singh v. State of Punjab, AIR 1953 SC 83 (86): (1953) SCR 319.
