The Punjab Custom (Power to Contest) Act, 1920 Complete Act

.....disposition of property." "Appointment of an heir" includes any adoption made or purporting to be made according to custom. 3. Scope of Act. This Act shall apply only in respect of alienations of immovable property or appointments of heirs made by persons who in regard to such alienations or appointments are governed by custom. 4. Savings. This Act shall not affect any right to contest any alienation or appointment of an heir made before the date on which this Act comes into force. 5. Rights of females. Title: Attendance of a Contesting Candidate or His Election Agent at Polling Stations, and Performance by Him of the Functions of a Polling Agent or Counting Agent

Presidency Small Cause Courts Act, 1882 Section 38

Title: New Trial of Contested Cases

Where a suit has been contested, the Small Cause Court may, on the application of either party, made within eight days from the date of the decree or order in the suit (not being a decree passed under section 522 of the {See now the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (Act 5 of 1908), Schedule II, section 16} Code of Civil Procedure (14 of 1882)), order a new trial to be held, or alter, set aside or reverse the decree or order, upon such terms as it thinks reasonable, and may, in the meantime, stay the proceedings. Explanation.Every suit shall be deemed to be contested in which the decree is made otherwise than by consent of or in default of appearance by the defendant.
