GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ACT, 1915-191 Preamble2 An Act to consolidate enactments relating to the government of India. whereas it is the declared policy of Parliament to provide for the increasing association of Indians in every branch of Indian administration, and for the gradual development of self-governing institutions, with a view to the progressive realisation of responsible government in British India as an integral part of the empire: AND WHEREAS progress in giving effect to this policy can only be achieved by successive stages, and it is expedient that substantial steps in this direction should now be taken: AND WHEREAS the time and manner of each advance can be determined only by Parliament, upon whom responsibility lies for the welfare and advancement of the Indian peoples: AND WHEREAS the action of Parliament in such matters must be guided by the co-operation received from those on whom new opportunities of service will be conferred, and by the extent to which it is found that confidence con be reposed in their sense of responsibility: AND WHEREAS concurrently with the gradual development of self-governing institutions in the provinces of India it is.....

.....under and by virtue of this Act to any such judge or recorder respectively shall cease and be no longer paid, anything herein or in any former Act or Acts contained to the contrary thereof in anywise notwithstanding. Section 12: If the governor general of Fort William or the governor of Fort St. George or of Bombay snail signify his intended absence from the council, the senior member present shall preside; but no act of such council shall be valid, unless signed by the governor general or governor respectively, if resiaent at the presidency and not presented by indisposition; and if not so prevented and he shall refuse to sign, he and the members who shall have signed shall mutually communicate the grounds of their opinions as directed by 33 George 3, c. 32, in cases where he shall, when present, dis- sent from the council. Title: In Case of Vacancy in the Office of Governor General, and No Successor Upon the Spot, the Ordinary Members of Council Next in Rank to Act as Governor General

* * *1 if any vacancy shall hap­pen in the office of governor general of India when no provisional or other successor shall be upon the spot to supply such vacancy, then and in every such case2 the ordinary member of council next in rank to the said governor general shall hold and execute the said office of governor general of India 3 * * * until a successor shall arrive or until some other person on the spot shall be duly appointed thereto; and every such acting governor general shall, during the time of his continuing to act as such, have and exercise all the rights and powers of governor general of India, and shall be entitled to receive the emoluments and advantages appertaining to the office by him supplied, such acting governor general foregoing his salary and allowance of a member of council for the same period. _________________________ 1. Enacting words repealed (U.K.), 51&52 Vict., c. 57 (S.L.R.). 2. The Vice-president appointed under 9 Edw. 7, c. 4, Section. 4, shall be deemed to be such member. 3. The words "and Governor of the Presidency of Fort William in Bengal" were repealed by 2&3 Geo. 5, c. 6, Section 4, and Schedule, Part II.

THE BENGAL DISTRICTS ACT,1836 [Act, No. 21 of 1836] [AS ON 1956] {Short title given by the Amending Act, 1903 (1 of 1903), Schedule I. The Act has been declared by the Laws Local Extent Act,1874(15 of 1874),s.6,to be in force throughout the former Province of Bengal, except the Scheduled Districts. It has been declared by notification under the Scheduled Districts Act, 1874 (14 of 1874), section 3, to be in force in-- West Jalpaiguri and the Western Duars in the Jalpaiguri District See Gazette of India, 1881, Pt., p.74 The districts of Hazaribagh Ranchi, Palamau and Manbhum, and Pargana Dhalbhum and the kolhan in the district of Singbhum, in the Chota Nagpur Division...... Ditto 1881, Pt.I., p.504 It has also been declared to be in force in the sontal Parganas by the Sonthal Parganas Settlement Regulation, 1872 (3 of 1872), section 3. The Act has been rep.in its application to:-- (1) Assam by Regn. 1 of 1886. (2) Punjab by Act 17 of 1887; and (3) Uttar Pradesh by Act 1 of 1903} [11th September, 1836]

1 * * * Any share or shares of the said Capital Stock may be transferred by indorsement made on the certificate for such share or shares by the proprietor of such share or shares, or by the Attorney of such proprietor duly authorized thereunto; provided always, that such indorsement shall specify the name of the party to whom the transfer is made ; and provided also that no such indorsement shall be effectual to transfer any such share or shares until such indorsement shall have been registered in a Register to be kept for that purpose at the office of the said Association, and until a note of such registration, and of the date thereof, shall have been made on the back of the indorsed certificate under the hand of an officer appointed for that purpose by the Directors of the said Association. ________________________ 1.
