.....Tokens Act, 1889. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Thirteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- 1. Short title.-- This Act may be called the Metal Tokens (Amendment) Act, 1962 2.Amendment of section 1.-- For sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Metal Tokens Act, 1889 (1 of 1889) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), the following subsection shall be substituted, namely:-- "(2) It extends to the whole of India" 3. Amendment of section 2.-- For section 2 of the principal Act, the following section shall be substituted namely:-- "2. Definition In this Act "issue" means to put a piece of metal into circulation for the first time for use as money in India, such piece having been made in contravention of this Act or brought into India by sea or by sea or by land in contravention of any notification for the time being in force under section 19 of the Sea Customs Act 1878; ( 8 of 1878) 4. Amendment of section 6.-- In section 6 of the principal Act, for the words " the said territories wherever they occur, the word India shall be substituted. ***************

THE METAL TOKENS ACT, 1889 [Act, No. 1 of 1889] [AS ON 1956] [1st February, 1889] PREAMBLE An Act for the protection of coinage and other purposes. WHEREAS it is expedient to prohibit the making, or the possession for issue, or the issue, by private persons of pieces of metal for use as money; AND WHEREAS it is also expedient to amend section 28 of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860); It is hereby enacted as follows: --

SECTION 07: ADDITION TO SECTION 98, ACT 10 OF 1882 [Repealed by the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (V of 1898).] SECTION 08: PROHIBITION OF RECEIPT BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND RAILWAYS AS MONEY OF METAL WHICH IS NOT COIN (1) No piece of metal which is not coin as defined in the Indian Penal Code shall be received as money by or on behalf of any railway-administration or local authority. (2) If any person on behalf of a railway-administration, or on behalf of a local authority, or on behalf of the lessee of the collection of any toll or other impost leviable by a railway-administration or local authority, receives as money any piece of metal which is not such coin as aforesaid, he shall be punished with fine which may extend to ten rupees. Title: Wearing Garb or Carrying Token Used by Soldier, Sailor or Airman

Whoever, not being a soldier,1[sailor or airman], in the Military,2[Naval or Air] service of the3[Government of India], wears any garb or carries any token resembling any garb or token used by such a soldier,1[sailor or airman] with the intention that it may be believed that he is such a soldier,1[sailor or airman], shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with both. ____________________ 1. Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860) Section 171

Title: Wearing Garb or Carrying Token Used by Public Servant with Fraudulent Intent

Whoever, not belonging to a certain class of public servants, wears any garb or carries any token resembling any garb or token used by that class of public servants, with the intention that it may be believed, or with the knowledge that it is likely to be believed, that he belongs to that class of public servants, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may extend to two hundred rupees, or with both.

Title: Adolescents Employed as Motor Transport Workers to Carry Tokens

No adolescent shall be required or allowed to work as a motor transport worker in any motor transport undertaking unless-- (a) a certificate of fitness granted with reference to him under section 23 is in the custody of the employer; and (b) such adolescent carries with him while he is at work a token giving a reference to such certificate. Title: Non-adult Workers to Carry Tokens

A child who has completed his fourteenth year or an adolescent shall not be required or allowed to work in any factory unless (a) a certificate of fitness granted with reference to him under section 69 is in the custody of the manager of the factory, and (b) such child or adolescent carries while he is at work a token giving a reference to such certificate.
