Title: Power to Set Apart Public Springs Etc., for Certain Purposes

The Grama Panchayat may by public notice which shall be put up at the spring, tank or other places concerned and otherwise as required by this Act, set apart public springs, tanks, wells and other places and parts of public water sources for drinking purposes or for bathing or for washing clothes or animals or for any other purposes calculated to promote the health, cleanliness, comfort or convenience of the inhabitants, and with the consent of the owners, may also set apart any private springs, tanks, wells or other places for any of the aforesaid purposes.

Title: Power to Order Cleansing of Insanitary Private Water Course, Spring, Tank, Well, Etc., Used for Drinking

(1) The Commissioner may by notice require the owner or person having control over any private water course, spring, tank, well or other place the water of which is used for drinking, bathing or washing clothes to keep the same in good repair, to cleanse it in such manner as the Commissioner may direct and to protect it from pollution caused by surface drainage or other matter in such manner as may be provided in the notice. (2) If the water of any private tank, well, or other place which is used for drinking or washing clothes, as the case may be, is proved to the satisfaction of the Commissioner to be unfit for that purpose, the Commissioner may by notice require the owner or person having control thereof to,- (a) refrain from using or permitting use of such water; or (b) close or fill up such place or enclose it with a substantial wall or fence.
