1 [60A. Reward to persons (1) When a court imposes a sentence of fine or a sentence of which fine forms a part, the court may, when passing judgment, order that the reward be paid to a person who renders assistance in the detection of the offence or the apprehension of the offenders out of the proceeds of fine not exceeding 2 [fifty per cent. of such fine] (2) When a case is compounded under section 54, the officer compounding may order reward to be paid to a person who renders assistance in the detection of the offence or the apprehension of the offenders out of the sum of money accepted by way of composition not exceeding 3 [fifty per cent. of such money].] ___________________________ 1. Inserted by Act 44 of 1991, section 43 (w.e.f. 2-10-1991). 2. Substituted by Act 16 of 2003, section 35, for "twenty per cent. of such fine" (w.e.f. 1-4-2003). 3. Title: Right of Finder of Goods, May Sue for Specific Reward Offered

The finder of goods has no right to sue the owner for compensation for trouble and expense voluntarily incurred by him to preserve the goods and to find out the owner; but he may retain the goods against the owner until he receives such compensation; and, where the owner has offered a specific reward for the return of goods lost, the finder may sue for such reward, and may retain the goods until he receives it.

Title: Disposal of Fees, Rewards, Etc

All fees paid for licences or written permissions issued under this Act, and all sums paid for the service of processes by Police Officers, and all rewards, forfeiture and penalties or shares thereof which are by law payable to Police Officers as informers, shall save in so far as any such fees or sums belong under the provisions of any enactment in force to any local authority, be credited to the Government: Provided that with the sanction of the Government, or under any rule made by the Government in that behalf the whole or any portion of such reward, forfeiture or penalty may, for special services, be paid to a Police Officer, or be divided amongst two or more Police Officers.

If the fine is ordered to be paid as a reward by a court whose decision is subject to appeal or revision, the amount ordered to be so paid, shall not be paid until the period prescribed for presentation of the appeal has elapsed, or if an appeal is preferred till after decision of the appeal.
