.....by one set of boundaries: Provided that where two or more adjoining holdings from part and parcel of the site or premises of a dwelling house, manufactory, warehouse or place of trade or business, such holdings shall be. deemed to be one holding for the purpose of this Act. THE TAMIL NADU PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1997 THE TAMIL NADU PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1997 (Act No.7 of 1997) An act to prohibit ragging in educational institution in the State of Tamil Nadu. Be it enacted by the Legislature Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Forty Eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows:- STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS Ragging in its manifold form has become a menace not only to the student community particularly to fresh entrants but also it has got its ramification in the society at large. The administrative actions taken so far have been found ineffective. It has therefore been decided to prohibit ragging by law. To give effect to the above decision, the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Ordinance, 1996 (Tamil Nadu ordinance 10 of 1996) was promulgated by the Governor on the 19th December, 1996 and the same was published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 19th December 1996. 2. THE ASSAM PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1998 THE ASSAM PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1998 [Act No. II of 1999] [08th January, 1999] PREAMBLE An Act to prohibit ragging in the Educational Institutions in Assam. Whereas it is expedient to prohibit ragging in the educational institutions in Assam. It is hereby enacted in the Forty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows- STATEMENT OF OBJECT AND REASONS It is proposed to replace the Ordinance with a Bill namely the Assam Prohibition of Ragging Bill, 1998 in the public interest to safeguard the interest of student community. Hence the Bill. ____________________ 1 . Published in the Assam Gazette, Extraordinary No. 2, dated 12th January, 1999. Section 1 - Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Assam Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Assam. Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999 Complete Act

The Tripura Educational Institutions (Prevention of Ragging ) Act, 1990 Complete Act

.....Institution (Prevention of Ragging) Act, 1990. (2) It extends to the whole of Tripura. (3) It shall come into force at once. 2. Application of the Act- This Act shall apply to all the Educational Institutions situated in the State of Tripura whether or not they are Government or private Institutions. 3. Definition - In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, Ragging will mean the following kind of offence :- Whoever, being a student in any Educational Institution, causes a fellow student to suffer physically or mentally by way of assault, intimidation, insult, tease, torment or any other form of torture commits ragging. 4. Punishment- Whoever commits ragging shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to four years or with fine or with both. 5. Procedure - The offences of ragging shall be cognizable and non-bailable. 6. Establishment of courts- The State Government may establish one or more special courts exclusively for trial of the cases under this Act and such courts may be presided over by a Judicial Magistrate or a special Judicial Magistrate appointed under section 13 of the Criminal procedure Code. 7.
