Title: Central Government or Foundation to Be Liable for Certain Prior Liabilities

Every liability in relation to any undertaking in respect of any period prior to the appointed day shall be enforceable against the Central Government and not against the Society, trust or body, or where the said undertakings are directed, under section 6, to vest in the Foundation, against the Foundation.

Prior to deletion clause (m) read as under: "A Works contract means contracts relating to construction of works like buildings, dams and bridges and other immovable property, erection of factories. Title: Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings of Auroville

Auroville Foundation Act, 1988 Complete Act

.....was forced to take over temporarily the manageinent of auroville from Sri Aurobindo Society and others under the Auroville (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1980 (59 of 1980). Initially, the Act was valid for 5 years but it had to be extended further in 1985 and 1987 as the efforts made to arrive at a solution, in consultation with the residents of Auroville and Sri Aurobindo Society, to provide for the permanent management of Auroville, had not succeeded. Efforts were. however, continued and a broad consensus has now emerged that it would be in the interest of further development of Auroville to establish a body corporate called the Auroville Foundation. 3. Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 Chapter 5

Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 Section 81

Title: Duration and Renewal of Permits

(1) A permit other than a temporary permit issued under section 87 or a special permit issued under sub-section (8) of section 88 shall be effective 1[from the date of issuance or renewal thereof] a period of five years: Provided that where the permit is countersigned under sub-section (1) of section 88, such countersignature shall remain effective without renewal for such period so as to synchronise with the validity of the primary permit. (2) A permit may be renewed on an application made not less than fifteen days before the date of its expiry. (3) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (2), the Regional Transport Authority or the State Transport Authority as the case may he, entertain an application for the renewal of a permit after the last date specified in that sub-section if it is satisfied that the applicant was prevented by good and sufficient cause from making an application within the time specified. Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 Chapter 13

Title: Offences, Penalties and Procedure

(3) If the holder of a permit or the driver of a contract carriage refuses, in contravention of the provisions of this Act or rules made thereunder, to ply the contract carriage or to carry the passengers, he shall,- (a) in the case of two-wheeled or three-wheeled motor vehicles, be punishable with fine which may extend to fifty rupees; and (b) in any other case, be punishable with fine which may extend to two hundred rupees.
