THE MUMBAI MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ACT 1888 THE MUMBAI MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ACT 1888 An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to the Municipal Government of '[Brihan Mumbai]. Preamble. WHEREAS it is expedient to consolidate and amend the law relating to the Municipal Government of '[Brihan Mumbai]; It is enacted as follows: CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE AND EXTENT This Act may be cited as 2 [the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888] 3 [It] extends only to 1 [Brihan Mumbai]. SECTION 02: REPEAL OF ENACTMENTS The enactments mentioned in Schedule A are repealed to the extent specified in the third column of the said Schedule: Provided that- (a) all rules and by-laws made, all notifications published, all orders issued and all I licenses and permissions granted under any of the said enactments and still in force shall, so far as they are consistent with this Act, be deemed to have been respectively made, published, issued and granted hereunder; and (b) all debts and obligations incurred, all contracts entered into and all matters and things engaged to be done, by, with or for the municipal corporation before this Act comes into force shall be.....

Title: Power of Inspector-general to Superintend Registration Offices and Make Rules

Title: Power of Inspector-general to Remit Fines

.....as admitted for registration; (d) The registering officer shall cause a copy so prepared to be filed, in accordance with the provisions of this Act and such rules as may be prescribed; (e) The true copy of the map or plan if any, mentioned in section 21 may also be filed along with the photocopy of the document or filed separately, in such manner as the Inspector General may direct. (2) All the words and expressions used in the Act with reference to the making of copies or documents by hand or the entering or filing of documents or memorandum in books provided under section 16, shall so far, as may be necessary, be construed as referring to the making of such copies by means of photocopying or the entering or filing of documents or memoranda in books made up of copies prepared by photocopying. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) book includes every volume, part or division of a volume, pamphlet and leaflet, in any language and every sheet of music, map, chart or plan separately printed or lithographed or otherwise mechanically produced; (b) document includes any painting, drawing or photo graph or other visible representation; (c) judicial proceedings includes any proceeding in the course of which evidence is or may be legally taken on oath; (d) matrimonial matter means any proceedings for disso lution or nullity of marriage, or for judicial separation, or for restitution of conjugal rights; (e) newspaper means any periodical work containing public news or comments on public news.
