THE MADRAS ESTATES LAND ACT, 1908 THE MADRAS ESTATES LAND ACT, 1908 [Act No. 1 of 1908] PREAMBLE An Act to declare and amend the law relating to the holding of land in estates in the Presidency of Madras. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend and declare the Law relating to the holding of land in estates in the Presidency of Madras; It is hereby enacted as follows:- Chapter I - PRELIMINARY THE MADRAS ESTATES LAND ACT, 1908 [Act No. 1 of 1908] PREAMBLE An Act to declare and amend the law relating to the holding of land in estates in the Presidency of Madras. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend and declare the Law relating to the holding of land in estates in the Presidency of Madras; It is hereby enacted as follows:- Section 1 - Short title, Commencement, Local extent This Act may be called the Madras Estates Land Act, 1908: It shall come into force on the first day of July 1908: and it shall extend to the whole of the Presidency of Madras except the Presidency Town, the district of Malabar and the portion of the Nilgiri district known as the South East Wynaad. Section 2 - Repeal Madras Acts VIII of 1865 and II of 1871 and section 7 of Madras Act.....

THE MADRAS ESTATES LAND (REDUCTION OF RENT) ACT, 1947 THE MADRAS ESTATES LAND (REDUCTION OF RENT) ACT, 1947 [Act No. 30 of 1947] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the reduction of rents payable by ryots in estates governed by the Madras Estates Land Act, 1908, approximately to the level of the assessments levied on lands in ryotwari areas in the neighborhood 1 [and for the collection of such rents exclusively by the Sate Government]. WHEREAS the rents now payable by ryots in estates governed by the Madras Estates land Act, 1908, are in many cases substantially higher than the assessments levied on lands in ryotwari areas in the neighborhood; AND WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the reduction of such rents approximately to the level of the rotary assessments in the neighborhood; (Inserted by Madras Estates Land (Reduction of Rent) Amendment Act, 1951 (Madras Act VII of 1951), deemed to have come into force on the 7th January 1948.) .....may be called the Capital Issues (Control) Repeal Act, 1992. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 29th day of May, 1992. NOTES Commencement of Act.-There are two ways of the laws coming into operation. One way that in the law itself it is laid down that it shall come into force on a particular day. SECTION 04: REPEAL AND SAVING (1) Capital Issues (Control) Repeal Ordinance, 1992 (Ord. 9 of 1992) -is hereby repealed.
