Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 Section 23

Title: Calculating Maturity of Bill or Note Payable So Many Months After Date or Sight

In calculating the date at which a promissory note or bill of exchange, made payable at stated number of months after date or after sight, or after a certain event, is at maturity, the period stated shall be held to terminate on the day of months which corresponds with the day on which the instrument is dated, or presented for acceptance or sight, or noted for non-acceptance, or protested for non-acceptance, or the event happens, or, where the instrument is a bill of exchange made payable a stated number of months after sight and has been accepted for honour, with the day on which it was so accepted. If the month in which the period would terminate has no corresponding day, the period shall be held to terminate on the last day of such month. Illustrations (a) A negotiable instrument dated 29th January, 1878, is made payable at one month after date. The instrument is at maturity on the third day after the 28th February, 1878. (b) A negotiable instrument, dated 30th August, 1878, is made payable three months after date. The instrument is at maturity on the 3rd December, 1878. Title: Circumstances in Which Persons May Be Detained for Periods Longer Than Three Months Without Obtaining the Opinion of Advisoryboards

Explanation 1.--The provisions of the Explanation to sub-section (2) of section 3 shall apply for the purposes of this sub-section as they apply for the purposes of that sub-section. Explanation 2.--In this sub-section, "disturbed area" means any area which is for the time being declared by notification under section 3 of the Punjab Disturbed Areas Act, 1983 (32 of 1983), or under section 3 of the Chandigarh Disturbed Areas Act, 1983 (33 of 1983), to be a disturbed area. Explanation 3.--In this sub-section, "terrorist and disruptive activities" means "terrorist acts" and "disruptive activities" within the meaning of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Ordinance, 1987 (Ord. 2 of 1987). Title: New Notice when Marriage Not Solemnized Within Three Months

Whenever a marriage is not solemnized within three calendar months from the date on which notice thereof has been given to the Marriage Officer as required by section 5, or where an appeal has been filed under sub-section (2) of section 8, within three months from the date of the decision of the district court on such appeal or, where the record of a case has been transmitted to the Central Government under section 10, within three months from the date of decision of the Central Government, the notice and all other proceedings arising therefrom shall be deemed to have lapsed, and no Marriage Officer shall solemnize the marriage until a new notice has been given in the manner laid down in this Act.

Karnataka Money-lenders Act, 1961 Section 35

Title: When Interest to Be Paid for Entire Month

Notwithstanding any agreement between the parties or any law for the time being in force, when a statement is delivered or pass book is supplied to a debtor under section 21 or if accounts are taken under section 33, or a tender is made by a debtor to a money-lender in respect of a loan under section 34 before the sixteenth day of a calendar month, the interest due shall be calculated as payable for fifteen days of the said month, and if the statement is delivered or pass book is supplied or accounts are taken or tender is made on any subsequent day, then for the entire calendar month irrespective of the fact that such statement is delivered or pass book is supplied or such accounts are taken or such tender is made on any such day.
