.....into a river a ring belonging to Z, with the intention of thereby causing wrongful loss to Z. A has committed mischief. (d) A, knowing that his effects are about to be taken in execution in order to satisfy a debt due from him to Z, destroys those effects, with the intention of thereby preventing Z from obtaining satisfaction of the debt, and of thus causing damage to Z. A has committed mischief. (e) A, having insured a ship, voluntarily causes the same to be cast away, with the intention of causing damage to the under-writers. A has committed mischief. (f) A causes a ship to be cast away, intending thereby to cause damage to Z who has lent money on bottomry on the ship. A has committed mischief. (g) A, having joint property with Z in a horse, shoots the horse, intending thereby to cause wrongful loss to Z. A has committed mischief. (h) A causes cattle to enter upon a field belonging to Z, intending to cause and knowing that he is likely to cause damage to Z's crop. A has committed mischief.

Title: Liability of Maker of Note and Acceptor of Bill

In the absence of a contract to the contrary, the maker of a promissory note and the acceptor before maturity of a bill of exchange are bound to pay the amount thereof at maturity according to the apparent tenor of the note or acceptance respectively, and the acceptor of a bill of exchange at or after maturity is bound to pay the amount thereof to the holder on demand. In default of such payment as aforesaid, such maker or acceptor is bound to compensate any party to the note or bill for any loss or damage sustained by him and caused by such default.

Title: Mischief Causing Damage to Public Property

(1) Whoever commits mischief by doing any act in respect of any public properly, other than public property of the nature referred to in sub-section (2), shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years and with fine. (2) Whoever commits mischief by doing any act in respect of any public property being (a) any building, installation or other property used in connection with the production, distribution or supply of water, light, power or energy; (b) any oil installations; (c) any sewage works; (d) any mine or factory; (e) any means of public transportation or of tele-communications, or any building, installation or other property used in connection therewith. shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than six months, but which may extend to five years and with fine : Provided that the court may, for reasons to be recorded in its judgment, award a sentence of imprisonment for a term of less than six months.

Title: Punishment for Mischief by Injury to Highway

Whoever commits mischief by doing any act which renders or which he knows to be likely to render any highway referred to in sub-section (1) of section 19A impassable or less safe for travelling or conveying property shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both. Explanation.-- For the purpose of this section, the expression "mischief" shall not include any peaceful demonstration or agitation held by any person or group of persons on any highway urging fulfilment of any legitimate demand. ________________________ 1. Title: Law Governing Liability of Maker, Acceptor or Indorser of Foreign Instrument

In the absence of a contract to the contrary, the liability of the maker of dr awer of a foreign promissory note, bill of exchange or cheque is regulated in all essential matters by the law of the place where he made the instrument, and the respective liabilities of the acceptor and indorser by the law of the place where the instrument is made payable. Illustration A bill of exchange was drawn by A in California where the rate of interest is 25 per cent, and accepted by B, payable in Washington where the rate of interest is 6 per cent. The bill is indorsed in '[India], and is dishonoured. An action on the bill is brought against B in1[India]. He is liable to pay interest at the rate of 6 per cent, only; but if A is charged as drawer, A is liable to pay interest at the rate of 25 per cent. ___________________ 1.
