Pondicherry (Administration) Act, 1962 Section 2

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, (a) "Administrator" means the Administrator of Pondicherry appointed by the President under Article 239 of the Constitution; (b) "appointed day" means the 16th day of August, 1962, being the date of entry into force of the Treaty of Cession; (c) "former French Establishments" means the territories which immediately before the appointed day were comprised in the French Establishments in India known as Pondicherry, Karikal, Mane and Yanam; (d) "High Court" means the High Court at Madras; (e) "law" means any Act, Ordinance, Regulation, rule, order, bye-law, decree or other provision (by whatever name called) having the force of law; (f) "Pondicherry" means the Union Territory comprising the territories of the former French Establishments; (g) "Treaty of Cession" means the treaty concluded between France and India on the 28th day of May, 1956 establishing the cession of the French Establishments by France to India in full sovereignty.

Bombay Inferior Village Watans Abolition Act, 1958, (Maharashtra) Section 9

Title: Eviction of Unauthorised Holder and Regrant of Watan Land to Him in Certain Circumstances and Disposal of Land Not Regranted

.....R. 222. Exercise of suo motu power.-The dispute in this case arises in the contest of the Bombay Inferior Village Watan Abolition Act, 1958. This Act was enacted "to abolish inferior village watans prevailing in certain parts of the State of Bombay". The expression "inferior village watan is defined in sec. (2)(1)(vii) to mean "the inferior village hereditary office together with tenure of watan properties, if any, and the rights, privileges and liabilities attached thereto". The expression "watandar" is defined in sec. 2(1)(xi) to mean a person having a hereditary interest in an inferior village watan under the existing watan law" by virtue of sec. 4, on and from the appointed date, all inferior village watan stood abolished notwithstanding anything contained in any usage, custom, settlement, grant, agreement, sanad or in any decree or order of the Court or in an existing watan law. It was held by the High Court that the rights which have enured to the benefit of the petitioner came to be crystalised by order of regrant that was passed by Dy. Collector. .....ACT, 1956 MEDICAL COUNCIL ACT, 1956 102 of 1956 30th December, 1956 "The objects of this Bill are to amend the Indian Medical Council Act, 1933 (Act 27 of 1933)- (a) to give representation to licentiate members of the medical profession, a large number of whom are still practising in the country, (b) to provide for the registration of the names of citizens of India who have obtained foreign medical qualifications which are not at present recognised .under the existing Act; (e) to provide for the temporary' recognition of medical qualifications granted by medical institutions in countries outside India with which no scheme of reciprocity exists in cases where the medical practitioners concerned are attached for the time being to any medical institution in India for the purpose of teaching or research or for any charitable object; (d) to provide for the formation of a Committee of Post-graduate Medical Education for the purpose of assisting the Medical Council of India to prescribe standards of post-graduate medical education for the guidance of Universities and to advise Universities in the matter of securing uniform standards for post-graduate medical education.....
