(f) A causes a ship to be cast away, intending thereby to cause damage to Z who has lent money on bottomry on the ship. A has committed mischief. (g) A, having joint property with Z in a horse, shoots the horse, intending thereby to cause wrongful loss to Z. A has committed mischief. (h) A causes cattle to enter upon a field belonging to Z, intending to cause and knowing that he is likely to cause damage to Z's crop. A has committed mischief.

Title: Power to Employ Additional Police in Places Where Mischief to Telegraphs is Repeatedly Committed

(1) Whenever it appears to the State Government that any act causing or likely to cause wrongful damage to any telegraph is repeatedly and maliciously committed in any place, and that the employment of an additional police- force in that place is thereby rendered necessary, the State Government may send such additional police-force as it thinks fit to the place, and employ the same therein so long as, in the opinion of that Goverrnent, the necessity of doing so continues. (2) The inhabitants of the place shall be charged with the cost of the additional police-force, and the District Magistrate shall, subject to the orders of the State Government, assess the proportion in which the cost shall be paid by the inhabitants according to his judgment of their respective means. (3) All moneys payable under sub-section (2) shall be recoverable either under the warrant of a Magistrate by distress and sale of the movable property of the defaulter within the local limits of his jurisdiction, or by suit in any competent court. (4) The State Government may, by order in writing, define the limits of any place for the purposes of this section.

Title: Mischief Causing Damage to Public Property

(1) Whoever commits mischief by doing any act in respect of any public properly, other than public property of the nature referred to in sub-section (2), shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years and with fine. (2) Whoever commits mischief by doing any act in respect of any public property being (a) any building, installation or other property used in connection with the production, distribution or supply of water, light, power or energy; (b) any oil installations; (c) any sewage works; (d) any mine or factory; (e) any means of public transportation or of tele-communications, or any building, installation or other property used in connection therewith. shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than six months, but which may extend to five years and with fine : Provided that the court may, for reasons to be recorded in its judgment, award a sentence of imprisonment for a term of less than six months.

Title: Punishment for Mischief by Injury to Highway

Whoever commits mischief by doing any act which renders or which he knows to be likely to render any highway referred to in sub-section (1) of section 19A impassable or less safe for travelling or conveying property shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both. Explanation.-- For the purpose of this section, the expression "mischief" shall not include any peaceful demonstration or agitation held by any person or group of persons on any highway urging fulfilment of any legitimate demand. ________________________ 1. Title: Punishment and Compensation for Malicious Action

(1) Any police officer who exercises powers corruptly or maliciously, knowing that there are no reasonable grounds for proceeding under this Act, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend lo two years, or with fine; or with both. (2) If the Special Court is of the opinion that any person has been corruptly or maliciously proceeded against under this Act, the capital may award such compensation as it deems lit to the person, so proceeded against and it shall be paid by the officer, person, authority or Government, as may be specified in the order.

Title: Punishment for False or Malicious Complaint and False Evidence

.....(1) or sub-section (2) of section 9, as the case may be, in accordance with the provisions of the service rules applicable to her or him or where no such service rules exist, in such manner as may be prescribed: Provided that a mere inability to substantiate a complaint or provide adequate proof need not attract action against the complainant under this section: Provided further that the malicious intent on part of the complainant shall be established after an inquiry in accordance with the procedure prescribed, before any action is recommended. (2) Where the Internal Committee or the Local Committee, as the case may be, arrives at a conclusion that during the inquiry any witness has given false evidence or produced any forged or misleading document, it may recommend to the employer of the witness or the District Officer, as the case may be, to take action in accordance with the provisions of the service rules applicable to the said witness or where no such service rules exist, in such manner as may be prescribed.
