Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 Section 288

Title: Power to Make Rules as to Life Saving Appliances

.....prevented; (k) the assignment of specific duties to each member of the crew in case of emergency; (l) the manner in which a notice given under section 287 or section 290 shall be communicated to the customs collector; (m) the practice in ships of boat drills, and fire drills; (n) the provision in ships of means of making effective distress signals by day and by night; (o) the provision in ships, engaged on voyages in which pilots are likely to be embarked, of suitable pilot ladders4 and of ropes, lights and other appliances designed to make the use of such ladders safe; (p) the periodical examination of any appliances or equipment required by any rules made under this Act to be carried by ships; and (q) the fees to be charged for the grant of any certificate under sub-section (3) of section 290. ________________________ 1. Title: Modification of Safety Convention Certificates as Respects Life Saving Appliances

.....the certificate shall have effect for the purpose of that voyage as if ill were modified in accordance with the memorandum. ________________________ 1. "(3) The Central Government or any person authorised by it in this behalf may grant an extension of any certificate issued under this Part in respect of an Indian ship for a period not exceeding one month from the date when the certificate would but for the extension have expired or if the ship is absent from India on that date, for a period not exceeding five months from that date." 2. Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 Section 290

Title: Inspection of Life Saving Appliances and Fire Appliances

State: Central

Year: 1958

(1) A surveyor may, at any reasonable time, inspect any ship for the purpose of seeing that she is properly provided with life saving and fire appliances in conformity with the rules made under this Act. (2) If the said surveyor finds that the ship is not so provided he shall give to the master or owner notice in writing pointing out the deficiency, and also pointing out what in his opinion is requisite to remedy the same. (3) Every notice so given shall be communicated in the prescribed manner to the customs collector of any port at which the ship may seek to obtain a clearance and the ship shall be detained until a certificate signed by such surveyor is produced to the effect that the ship is properly provided with life saving and fire appliances in conformity with the said rules.

.....CONTROL BUREAU 38Y. Constitution of Tiger and other Endangered Species Crime Control Bureau.--The Central Government may, for the purposes of this Act, by order published in the Official Gazette, constitute a Tiger and other Endangered Species Crime Control Bureau to be known as the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau consisting of-- (a) the Director of Wildlife Preservation--Director ex-officio; (b) the Inspector-General of Police--Additional Director; (c) the Deputy Inspector-General of Police--Joint Director; (d) the Deputy Inspector-General of Forests--Joint Director; (e) the Additional Commissioner (Customs and Central Excise)--Joint Director; and (f) such other officers as may be appointed from amongst the officers covered under sections 3 and 4 of this Act. 38Z. Title: Constitution of the National Board for Wild Life
