Assam Reorganisation (Meghalaya) Act, 1969 Complete Act

.....of the matters enumerated in the Concurrent List in the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution, which the Legislature of Meghalaya is competent to enact under this Act contains any provision repugnant to the provision of an earlier law made by Parliament or an existing law with respect to that matter, then, the law so made by the Legislature of Meghalaya shall, if it has been reserved for the consideration of the President and has received his assent, prevail in Meghalaya: Provided that nothing in this sub-section shall prevent Parliament from enacting at any time, any law with respect to the same matter, including a law adding to, amending, varying or repealing the law so made by the Legislature of Meghalaya. THE ASSAM REORGANISATION (MEGHALAYA) ACT, 1969 THE ASSAM REORGANISATION (MEGHALAYA) ACT, 1969 ACT NO. 55 OF 1969 [29th December, 1969.] An Act to provide for the formation within the State of Assam of an autonomous State to be known as Meghalaya and for matters connected therewith. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Twentieth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- PART I PRELIMINARY 1. Short title and commencement. (1) This Act may be called the Assam Reorganisation (Meghalaya) Act, 1969. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint: Provided that different dates 1[ may be appointed for different provisions of this Act. 2. Definitions. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,-- (a) " appointed day" means such date 2[ as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint for the formation of the autonomous State; (b) " article" means an article of the Constitution; (c) " autonomous State" means the autonomous State of Meghalaya formed under section 3; (d) " constituency" means a territorial constituency provided by order made.....

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS According to the existing provisions laid down in the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members' Salaries and Allowances) At, 1972 (Act 8 of 1972) a member is entitled to a salary of Rs.400 p.m. and a fixed travelling allowance of Rs.250 p.m. and for the number of days attended, a daily allowance at Rs.25 is paid if the member's attendance is required in connection with his duties such member and a conveyance allowance of Rs.5 per day during the period any of each committees hold its meetings. .....the Legislative Assembly of (Members' Pension) (Amendment) Act, 2000. (2) It shall come into force on and from 1st April, 2000. Amendment of Section 3 of Act 6 of 1977 2. In section 3 of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members' Pension) Act, 1977 (herein- after referred to as the principal Act) - (a) for sub-section (1) the following shall be substituted, namely - "(1) With effect from the commencement of this Act, there shall be paid pension of three thousand rupees per mensem to every person who served for a period of not less than five years, whether continuous or not, as a member of the Legislative Assembly and such person shall continue to be paid on additional pension of rupees two hundred per mensem for every year however that in no case shall the total pension payable exceed rupees ten thousand per mensem".
