Be it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty ˆ’seventh Year of the Republic of India as Follows: ˆ’ Section 1 - Short title, extent, commencement and application (1) This Act may be called the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. (2) It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government by notification, appoint and different dates may be appointed for different States and for different provisions of this Act. (2) It shall come into force on the 16th February, 2000.
