The Maharashtra Land Revenue Code 1966 Complete Act

.....for the time being in force; and includes premium, rent, lease money, quit rent, judi payable by a Inamdar or any other payment provided under any Act, rule, contract or deed on account of any land; (20) "legal practitioner" has the meaning assigned to it in the Advocates Act, 1961 (2 1) "non-agricultural assessment" means the assessment fixed on any land under the provisions of this Code or rules there under with reference to the use of the land for a non-agricultural purpose; (22) "occupancy" means a portion of land held by an occupant; (23) "occupant" means a holder in actual possession of unalienated land, other than a tenant or Government lessee; provided that, where a holder in actual possession is a tenant, the landholder or the superior landlord, as the case may be, shall be deemed to be the occupant; (24) "occupation" means possession; (25) "to occupy land" means to possess or to take possession of land; (26) "pardi land" means a cultivated land appertaining to houses within a village site; (27) "population" in relation to any area means population as ascertained at the last preceding census of which the, relevant figures have been published; (28) "prescribed" means.....

.....of, or regulating the asking of questions on, any matter which affects the discharge of his functions in so far as he is required by or under this Act to act in his discretion, or by or under any law to exercise judicial or quasi-judicial functions and, if and in so far as any rule so made by the Administrator is inconsistent with any rule made by the Metropolitan Council, the rule made by the Administrator shall prevail. .....of the sub-committees of a market committee shall be in accordance with the bye-laws made for that purpose. Section 55 - Mode of making contracts (1) No contract or agreement on behalf of the market committee for the purchase, sale, lease, mortgage or other transfer of or acquisition of interest in immoveable property shall be executed on behalf of the market committee except with the sanction of the market committee: Provided that in cases where the powers under this sub-section in respect of any matters are delegated to a sub-committee, sanction of such sub-committee shall be obtained. (2) Save as provided in sub-section (1),- (i) the Secretary of the market committee may execute contracts or agreements on behalf of the market committee where the amount or value of such contract or agreement does not exceed 1 [such amount as may be prescribed] regarding matters in respect of which he is generally or specially authorised to do so by a resolution of the market committee; 2 [(ii) in any case other than the one referred to in clause (i), a contract or agreement on behalf of the market committee shall be executed by the Chairman and Secretary of the market.....

Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act, 1966 Section 48

Title: Meeting of the Market Committee

.....shall specify the object for which the meeting is proposed to be called. (3) If the Chairman fails to call a special meeting as provided in sub-section (2), the Vice-Chairman or one third of the total number of members may call such meeting for a day not more than1[thirty days] after the presentation of such request and require the Secretary to give notice to the members and take such action as may be necessary to convene the said meeting and on such request the Secretary shall convene the meeting accordingly. (4) Seven clear days' notice of an ordinary meeting and five clear days' notice of a special meeting specifying the date, time and place at which such meeting is to be held and the business to be transacted thereat, shall be sent to the members entitled to attend the meeting and affixed on the notice board of the office of the market committee. Such notice shall include, in the case of a special meeting, any motion or proposition to be considered at such meeting: Provided that in case of urgency, the Chairman may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, convene a special meeting of the market committee by giving thirty-six hours previous notice to the members. .....

Beedi and Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act, 1966 Section 22

Title: Notice of Periods of Work

(1) There shall be displayed and correctly maintained in every industrial premises a notice of periods of work in such form and in such manner as may be prescribed, showing clearly for every day the periods during which the employees may be required to work. (2) (a) A copy of the notice referred to in sub-section (1) shall be sent in triplicate to the Inspector having jurisdiction over the industrial premises within two weeks from the date of the grant of a licence for the first time under this Act, in the case of any industrial premises carrying on work at the commencement of this Act, and in the case of any industrial premises beiginning work after such commencement, before the day on which the work is begun in the industrial premises. (b) Any proposed change in the system of work which will necessitate a change in the notice referred to in sub-section (1) shall be notified to the Inspector in triplicate before the change is made and except with the previous sanction of the Inspector, no such change shall be made until one week has elapsed since the last change.

Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act, 1966 Section 43

Title: Vacancy in Office of Chairman and Vice- Chairman

(1) A member holding office as Chairman or Vice Chairman may resign his office at any time by writing under his hand addressed to the1[Director of Agricultural Marketing] and the office shall become vacant on the expiry of fifteen clear days from the date of such resignation, unless, within the said period of fifteen days, he withdraws such resignation in writing under his hand addressed to the1[Director of Agricultural Marketing]. (2) Every Chairman or Vice-chairman shall vacate office if he ceases to be a member of the market committee. (3) During the Vacancy in the office of the Chairman and when there is no Vice- Chairman to take his place, then, notwithstanding anything contained in this Act,2[an officer appointed in this behalf by the Director of Agricultural Marketing] shall exercise the powers and perform the functions of the Chairman until a Chairman or Vice-Chairman is duly elected. 3[Proviso x x x] _______________ 1. .....in the order, certified copies of all such entries accompanied by a further certificate that no other entries are to be found in the books of the committee or Board relevant to the matters in issue in such proceeding and such further certificate shall be dated and subscribed in the manner prescribed for certified copies under sub-section (1). (b) An order under this sub-section or sub-section (2), may be made either with or without summoning the committee or Board, and shall be served on the committee or the Board three clear days exclusive of public holidays before the same is to be complied with, unless the court or other authority shall otherwise direct. (c) The Committee or the Board may at any time before the time specified for compliance of any such order either offer to produce its books at the trial or give notice of its intention to show cause against such order, and thereupon the same shall not be enforced without further orders.

.....the official Gazette, appoint and different dates may be appointed by the State Government for different areas and for different provisions of this Act. SECTION 02: DEFINITIONS In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "adult" means a person who has completed eighteen years of age ; (b) "child" means a person who has not completed fourteen years of age ; (c) "competent authority" means any authority authorized by the State Government by notification in the official Gazette to perform all or any of the functions of the competent authority under this Act and for such areas as may be specified therein ; (d) "contractor" means a person who. in relation to a manufacturing process, undertakes to produce a given result by executing the work through contract labour or who engages labour for any manufacturing process in a private dwelling-house and includes a sub-contractor, agent, munshi, thekedar or sattedar ; (e) "contract labour" means any person engaged or employed in any premises by or through a contractor, with or without the knowledge of the employer, in any manufacturing process ; (f) "employee" means a person employed directly or through any agency,.....
