COPYRIGHT ACT, 1957 COPYRIGHT ACT, 1957 [Act No. 14 of Year 1957, dated 4th. June, 1957] An Act to amend and consolidate the law relating to copyright Be it enacted by Parliament in the Eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows: - CHAPTER I: PRELIMINARY SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT (1) This Act may be called the Copyright Act, 1957. (2) It extends to the whole of India. (3) It shall come into force on such date1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. PRESS COUNCIL ACT, 1978 PRESS COUNCIL ACT, 1978 37 OF 1978 An Act to establish a Press Council for the purpose of preserving the freedom of the Press and of maintaining and improving the standards of newspaper and news agencies in India. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Twenty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows :-STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS The Press Council of India was established in July, 1966 under Press Council Act, 1965, mainly to preserve the freedom of the Press and to maintain and improve the standards of newspapers and news agencies in the country. During the Emergency the Press Council was dissolved with effect from the 1st January, 1976. 2. As a part of a series of measures now being undertaken by the Government to restore the freedom of the Press and keep up the independence standards of newspapers in the country, it is proposed to revive the Press Council of India. This Bill seeks to establish a Press Council of India and is on the same lines as Press Council Act, 1965, with the following changes :- (a) The Chairman of the Council will be nominated by the Chief Justice of India and the other members thereof representing the newspapers.....

Section 10 - Vacancies among members or defect in the constitution not to invalidate acts and proceedings of the Council No act or proceeding of the Council shall be deemed to be invalid by reason merely of the existence of any vacancy in, or any defect in the constitution of, the Council. .....co-operative society, partnership firm, company or undertaking, by whatever name called,-- (a) in the case of the enterprises engaged in the manufacture or production of goods pertaining to any industry specified in the First Schedule to the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951(65 of 1951), as-- (i) a micro enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery does not exceed twenty-five lakh rupees; (ii) a small enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery is more than twenty-five lakh rupees but does not exceed five crore rupees; or (iii) a medium enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery is more than five crore rupees but does not exceed ten crore rupees; (b) in the case of the enterprises engaged in providing or rendering of services, as-- (i) a micro enterprise, where the investment in equipment does not exceed ten lakh rupees; (ii) a small enterprise, where the investment in equipment is more than ten lakh rupees but does not exceed two crore rupees; or (iii) a medium enterprise, where the investment in equipment is more than two crore rupees but does not exceed five crore rupees. Section 5 - Functions of Board The Board shall, subject to the general directions of the Central Government, perform all or any of the following functions, namely:-- (a) examine the factors affecting the promotion and development of micro, small and medium enterprises and review the policies and programmes of the Central Government in regard to facilitating the promotion and development and enhancing the competitiveness of such enterprises and the impact thereof on such enterprises; (b) make recommendations on matters referred to in clause (a) or on any other matter referred to it by the Central Government which, in the opinion of that Government, is necessary or expedient for facilitating the promotion and development and enhancing the competitiveness of the micro, small and medium enterprises; and (c) advise the Central Government on the use of the Fund or Funds constituted under section 12.
