Preamble 1 - KARNATAKA PREVENTION OF COW SLAUGHTER AND CATTLE PRESERVATION ACT, 1964 THE 1 [KARNATAKA] PREVENTION OF COW SLAUGHTER AND CATTLE PRESERVATION ACT, 1964. [Act, No. 35 of 1964]1 [14th August, 1964] PREAMBLE An Act to provide for the prevention of slaughter of cows, calves of cows and calves of she--buffaloes and for the preservation of other cattle in the State. WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the prevention of slaughter of cows, calves of cows and calves of she--buffaloes and for the preservation of other cattle in the State; BE it enacted by the 2 [Karnataka State] Legislature in the Fifteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-- ______________________________________ 1. .....to ascertain whether such bull is a approved bull or whether it has been castrated and branded or tattooed in such manner as is required under this Act. Section 16 Power of Livestock Officer to require bulls, cows and calves to be vaccinated or inoculated The Livestock Officer may by order in writing require any person to allow bulls, cows and calves in his possession to be vaccinated or inoculated against an infectious or contagious disease either by the Livestock Officer himself or by any other person authorised by him in writing in this behalf. .....as included in the items of Schedule, Pt. II only Bullocks, Goats and Sheep are mentioned. According to the provisions of section 6 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976, Bovines (bulls, bullocks, female buffaloes and buffalo calves) are prohibited for slaughter. "Slaughter" means killing to obtain flesh for butcher's meat. Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 Complete Act

.....SERVANTS All persons exercising powers under this Act shall be deemed to be public servants within the meaning of section 21 of the Indian Penal Code. SECTION 13: PROTECTION OF PERSONS ACTING IN GOOD FAITH TINDER ACT OR RULES No suit prosecution or other legal proceedings shall be instituted against any person for anything which is in good faith done or intended to be done under this Act or the rules made thereunder. SECTION 14: EXEMPTIONS UNDER THIS ACT Subject to any conditions prescribed in this behalf, this Act shall not apply to, - (a) any animal (other than cow) operated upon for vaccine, lymph or serum at any institution established, conducted or recognised by the State Government; (b) any animal (other than cow) operated upon for any experimental or research purposes at the institution referred to in clause (a); (c) any animal (other than cow) or class thereof ,- (i) slaughter of which is certified by a veterinary surgeon authorised in this behalf by the State Government to be necessary in the interest of the public health; (ii)Vol .2 F-12 which are suffering from any disease which is certified by such veterinary surgeon as being contagious and dangerous to other.....
