Section 5 - Powers of the University The University shall have the following powers, namely:- (1) to institute degrees, diploma and other academic distinctions, irrespective of their religion, race, creed, caste, sex or class or any of them; (2) to confer degrees, diploma and other academic distinctions on persons who shall have carried out research in the University or in any other institution or centre recognised by the University under conditions prescribed; Explanation.- For the purpose of this clause and other provisions of this Act, institution or centre recognised by the University shall mean an institution or a centre situated in India or in other countries, recognised by the University for the purpose of furthering the objects of the University; (3) to confer honorary degrees or other academic distinctions in the prescribed manner and under conditions prescribed; (4) to supervise and control hostels and to regulate and enforce discipline among the students of the University and to make.....

(7) "building of the warehouse class" means a building, the whole or a substantial part of which is used, or intended to be used, as a warehouse, factory, manufactory, brewery, or distillery, or for any similar purpose, which is neither a "domestic building" nor a "public building" as defined in this section, and includes a hut used or intended to be used for any of the purposes mentioned in this clause; (8) "bustee" means an area containing land not less than seven hundred square metres in area occupied by or for the purposes of any collection of huts or other structures used or intended to be used for human habitation.
