.....it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows:- SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT AND COMMENCEMENT (1) This Act may be called the Mental Health Act, 1987. (2) It extends to the whole of India. (3) It shall come into force on such date1as the Central Government may, by notification, appoint and different dates may be appointed for different States and for different provisions of this Act, and any reference in any provision to the commencement of this Act in a State shall be construed as a reference to the coming into force of that provision in that State. SECTION 02: DEFINITIONS In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "cost of maintenance", in relation to a mentally ill person admitted in a psychiatric hospital or psychiatric nursing home, shall mean the cost of such items as the State Government may, by general or special order, specify in this behalf; (b) "District Court" means, in any area for which there is a city civil court, that court, and in any other area the principal civil court of original jurisdiction, and includes any other civil court which the State Government may, by notification, specify as the Court.....

SECTION 03: ESTABLISHMENT AND INCORPORATION OF NATIONAL HOUSING BANK (1) With effect from such date2as the Central Government may, by notification, appoint, there shall be established for the purposes of this Act, a bank to be known as the National Housing Bank. (2) the National Housing Bank shall be a body corporate with the name aforesaid having perpetual succession and a common seal with power, subject to the provisions of this Act, to acquire, hold and dispose of property and to contract, and may, by that name, sue and be sued. (3) The head office of the National Housing Bank shall be at Bombay or at such other place as the Reserve Bank may, by notification, specify. Title: Judicial Inquisition Regarding Alleged Mentally Ill Person Possessing Property,custody of His Person and Management of His Property

(1) Where the mentally ill person is incapable of taking care of himself, the District Court or, where a direction has been issued under sub-section (2) of section 54, the Collector of the District, may appoint any suitable person to be his guardian. (2) In the discharge of his functions under sub-section (1), the Collector shall be subject to the supervision and control of the State Government or of any authority appointed by it in that behalf. Section 54 - Appointment of manager for management of property of mentally ill person (1) Where the property of the mentally ill person who is incapable of managing it is such as can be taken charge of by a Court of Wards under any law for the time being in force, the District Court shall authorise the Court of Wards to take charge of such property, and thereupon notwithstanding anything contained in such law, the Court of Wards shall assume the management of such property in accordance with that law. National Housing Bank Act, 1987 Chapter II

Title: Management of the National Housing Bank

National Housing Bank Act, 1987 Section 9

Title: Vacation and Resignation of Office by Directors

(1) If a director-- (a) becomes subject to any of the disqualifications mentioned in Section 8; or (b) is absent without leave of the Board for three or more consecutive meetings thereof, his seat shall thereupon become vacant. (2) Any director may resign his office by giving notice thereof in writing to the authority that appointed or, as the case may be, nominated him and on the resignation being accepted by such authority or if his resignation is not sooner accepted, on the expiry of three months from the receipt thereof by such appointing authority, he shall be deemed to have vacated his office.

Mental Health Act, 1987 Section 57

Title: Appointment and Remuneration of Guardians and Managers

(1) No person, who is the legal heir or a mentally ill person shall be appointed under section 53, 54 or 55 to be the guardian of such mentally ill person or, as the case may be, the manager of his properly unless the District Court or, as the case may be, the Collector, for reasons to be recorded in writing, considers that such appointment is for the benefit of the mentally ill person. (2) The guardian of a mentally ill person or the manager of his property or both appointed under this Act shall be paid, from out of the property of the mentallyjll person, such allowance as the appointing authority may determine.
