.....and amend the law relating to Co-operative Societies in the Province of Assam. It is hereby enacted as follows: COMMENTS Preamble. This act has been enacted to facilitate the formation and working of Co-operative Societies and to consolidate and amend the law relating to the Co operative Societies in the State of Assam. There is a Central Act, viz., the Co-operative Societies Act, 1912, which amended the Co-operative Credit Societies Act, 1904. The Act of 1904 applies to Societies for the purpose of Co-operative Credit only and not to Co-operative Societies of other kinds. The Central Act has been repealed in its application to Assam and Nagaland by the present Assam Act 1 of 1950. The policy of the Co-operative Societies Act is to save the person concerned from protractive, expensive and sometimes ruinous litigation of the civil courts and its object is to encourage, help and bring co-operation among the persons having limited means. The object of the Co-operative Societies is also to create the quality of credit-worthiness among agriculturists, artisans and other persons with common economic needs so as to bring about a higher standard of living, better business,.....

SECTION 07: CONTINUANCES OF CERTAIN PROCEEDINGS IN HIGH COURT All proceedings and steps taken in, and orders made and certificates granted by, a High Court in connection with an Indian appeal or petition shall, except in the case of any such appeal or petition as is referred to in (section 4) be deemed to be in connection with an appeal or petition to the Federal Court from, or in respect of, the same judgment, decree or order under the provisions of this Act, and shall be concluded, or as the case may be, have effect accordingly. SECTION 08: EFFECTS OF ORDERS OF HIS MAJESTY IN COUNCIL Any order of His Majesty in Council made on an Indian appeal or petition, whether before, on or after the appointed day, shall for all purposes have effect, not only as an order of His Majesty in Council, but also as if it were an order or decree made by the Federal Court in the exercise of the jurisdiction conferred by this Act. Title: Powers of Central Government to Refer Disputes in Respect of Which Awards or Decisions Have Been Made for Re-adjudication

(2) After the Industrial Tribunal to which the dispute or any of the matters in dispute has been so referred for re-adjudication has submitted its award under sub-section (1) of section 15 of the said Act the Central Government may, by order in writing, declare that the award or decision previously made in respect of such dispute by the tribunal or other authority constituted or appointed by the State Government or any officer or authority constituted or appointed by the State Government or any officer or authority subordinate to such Government or such part of that award or decision as may be specified in the order shall cease to be in operation.

(1) As from the appointed day, the jurisdiction of His Majesty in Council to entertain, and save as hereinafter provided to dispose of appeals and petitions from, or in respect of, any judgment, decree or order of any court or tribunal (other than the Federal Court) within the territory of India, including appeals and petitions in respect of criminal matters, whether such jurisdiction is exercisable by virtue of His Majesty's prerogative or otherwise, shall cease. (2) The appeals and petitions aforesaid are hereinafter referred to as "Indian appeals" and "Indian petitions" respectively.

Section 6 Acquisition (1) The 2[State] Government may acquire the properties described in the First Schedule (hereinafter in this section referred to as the said properties) by publishing in the Official Gazette a notice to the effect that the 22.Word subs. for the word "provincial" by the Adaptation of Laws Order.1950. [State] Government has decided to acquire the said properties in pursuance of this section. (2) When the notice as aforesaid is published in the Official Gazette, the said properties shall, on and from the beginning of the day on which the notice is so published, vest absolutely in the 2 [State] Government free from all incumbrances, and thereupon the 2[State] Government may take possession of the said properties in such manner as it may think fit. (3) When the said properties are acquired in pursuance of this section, there shall be paid to the persons interested such compensation as may be determined and apportioned by the Collector (a), in accordance with agreements reached between the persons interested.....
