THE GOVERNMENT OF UNION TERRITORIES ACT, 1963 THE GOVERNMENT OF UNION TERRITORIES ACT, 1963 (No. 20 of 1963) (10th Mary, 1963) An Act to provide for Legislative Assemblies and Councils of Ministers for certain Union territories and for certain other matters. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Fourteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows:- PART I PRELININARY Short title and Commencement:- 1. (1) This Act may be called the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963. (2) It shall come into force on such date [Provisions of ss. 1,2,53, 56 and 57 and Schedule II came into force in the Union territory of Pondicherry on 13-5-1963, vide Notification G.S.R. 815, dated 13-5-1963.
