.....unless the context otherwise requires:- (a) "appointed date" means the date appointed by the Government by notification, for the purposes of this Act; Orissa Act 7 of 1960. (b) "Panchayat Samiti Act" means the Orissa panchayat Samiti Act, 1959 (c) words and expressions used in this Act, but not defined herein, shall have the same meaning as assigned to them respectively under the Panchayat Samiti Act. Cessation of office of chairman. 3 . (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in the Panchayat Samiti Act, the Chairman of Saharapada Panchayat Samiti holding office as such with effect from the 20th day of May, 1977, shall cease to hold office with effect from the appointed date. (2) The powers and functions of the Chairman who ceases to hold office under sub-section (1) shall be exercised by the Sub-divisional officer having jurisdiction over the concerned block until the newly elected Chairman assumes office. Notwithstanding anything contained in the Registration Act, 1908 or in any Judgement, decree or order of any Court, the registration of documents made between the period beginning with the 1stday of January, 1949 and ending with the 31st day of January, 1959 by the Head Clerk of any Office of Sub-Registration the absence of the Sub-Registrar under the belief that he had been duly appointed under section 12 of that Act to be the Sub-Registrar during the period of such absence, shall for all intents and purposes, be deemed to have been validly made, and no document so registered shall be called in question in any Court of Law merely on the ground that the said Head Clerk had not been duly appointed to be the Sub-Registrar as aforesaid.
