STATEMENT OF OBJECT AND REASONS According to the existing provisions laid down in the Legislative Assembly (Members' Salaries and Allowances) Act, 1972 (Act 8 of 1972) a member is entitled to a salary of Rs.350 p.m. and a fixed Travelling Allowances of Rs.150 p.m. and for the number of days attended, a daily allowances at Rs.20 is paid if the member's attendance is required in connection with his duties as such member and a conveyance allowance of Rs.2.50 per day during the period the Legislative Assembly is in session and during the period any of its committees hold its meetings. In view of the high cost of living as well as travelling expenses the existing rates of salary, fixed travelling allowance, daily allowance and conveyance allowance are considered not adequate. Hence this Bill. Be it enacted by the Legislature of Meghalaya in the Twenty-fifth Year of the Republic of India as follows :- Short title and commencement 1. (1) This Act may called the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Member's Salaries and Allowances) (Amendment) Act, 1974. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of March, 1974.
