(7) Every member who voluntarily suspends practice or retires, shall, within three months of such suspension or retirement, intimate that fact to the Committee, and if any memebr fails to do so without sufficient reason, the Committee, may reduce, in accordance with such principles as may be prescribed, the amount due to that member. Section 16 - Payment from the Fund on Cessation of practice (1) A member of the Fund shall, on cessation of practice, be entitled to receive from and out of the Fund an amount at the rate specified in the Schedule. (2) In the event of death of a member, a consolidated amount as determined by the Committee in the manner prescribed, may also be paid to the nominee or where there is no nominee, to his dependents in addition to payment under sub-section (1). Explanation.--For the purpose of this sub-section the word dependent" means any of the following relatives of a deceased member, namely-- (i) a widow, a minor legitimate son, and unmarried legitimate daughter or a widowed mother; and (ii) if wholly dependent on the earnings of the member at the time of his death, a son or a daughter who had attained the age of 18 years and.....

THE ASSAM PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1998 THE ASSAM PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1998 [Act No. II of 1999] [08th January, 1999] PREAMBLE An Act to prohibit ragging in the Educational Institutions in Assam. Whereas it is expedient to prohibit ragging in the educational institutions in Assam. It is hereby enacted in the Forty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows- STATEMENT OF OBJECT AND REASONS It is proposed to replace the Ordinance with a Bill namely the Assam Prohibition of Ragging Bill, 1998 in the public interest to safeguard the interest of student community. Hence the Bill. ____________________ 1 . Published in the Assam Gazette, Extraordinary No. 2, dated 12th January, 1999. Section 1 - Short title, extent and commencement (1) This Act may be called the Assam Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Assam. (3) It shall come into force at once. Section 2 - Definitions In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires- (a) "Educational Institution" means any College, having Degree classes and/or Higher Secondary classes and/or Post Graduate classes, Junior College and any level.....
