Definition

Indian State, 'Indian State' means any territory which the Government of the Dominion of India recognised as such a State. [Constitution of India, Articles 366(15)]

Indian State shall mean any territory which the Central Government recognised as such a State before the commencement of the Constitution, whether described as a State, an Estate, a Jagir or otherwise. [General Clauses Act, 1897 (10 of 1897), s. 3(30)]
