Index. A list in alphabetical order of separate items or subjects contained in any writing or book or otherwise of specified subjects. Under the (English) Companies Act, 1929, ss. 97 and 98, limited companies are required to keep an index of names of registered members; also a list of prohibited books at the Vatican.
