Definition :
Hospitallers, the knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, so called because they built a hospital at Jerusalem wherein pilgrims were received. On the suppression of the Templar the Pope transferred their property to the Hospitallers, who were in their turn suppressed, and all their lands and goods in England given to the sovereign by 32 Hen. 8, c. 24.
