High Commission Court, established by 1 Eliz. c. 1. It was instituted to vindicate the dignity and peace of the Church by reforming and correcting the ecclesiastical state and persons, and all manner of errors, heresies, schisms, abuses, offences, contempt's, and enormities. The powers of this tribunal were directed to tyrannical and unconstitutional pur-poses; it was therefore abolished by 16 Car. 1, c. 11, 5 Reeves, 215.
