Definition :

Half blood, means two persons one said to be related to each other by full blood when they are descended from a common ancestor by the same wife and by half blood when they are descended from a common ancestor but by different wives. [Hindu Succession Act, 1956 (30 of 1956), s. 3(e); Special Marriage Act, 1954, s. 2(b)]

The relationship through one only and not through both of the parents or other ancestors. By the old law a relative of the half-blood could not inherit real estate, but this was altered by the Inheritance Act, 1833 (3 & 4 Wm. 4, c. 106). In the succession to personal estate there was no distinction between the whole and the half-blood until 1926, when the Admin. Of Estates Act, 1925, ss. 46 & 47, enacted that the half-blood are only entitled to the distribution of an intestate estate on the total absence of the whole blood in equal degree; see FRATER FRATRI, etc.
