Definition :

Guardian, means a person having the care of the person of a minor or his property or of both his person and property, and includes:

(i) a natural guardian,

(ii) a guardian appointed by the will of the minor's father or mother,

(iii) a guardian appointed or declared by court, and

(iv) a person empowered to act as such by or under any enactment relating to any court of wards;

Explanation.--For the purposes of this clause, any name which is not the name of a country, region or locality of that country shall also be considered as the geographical indication if it relates to a specifies geographical area and is used upon or in relation to particular goods originating from that country, region or locality, as the case may be. [Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956 (32 of 1956), s. 4(b)]

A guardian is one appointed by the wisdom and policy of the law to take care of a person and his affairs, who by reason of his imbecility and want of understanding is incapable of acting for his own interest (2 Bacon's Abridgment, 672). See GUARDIANSHIP.

In relation to a child, means his natural guardian or any other person having the actual charge or control over the child and recognized by the competent authority as a guardian in course of proceedings before that authority. [Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 (56 of 2000), s. 2 (j)]

It means a person having the care of the person of a minor or a lunatic. [Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 (34 of 1971), s. 2 (a)]

It means a person having the care of the person of a minor or of his property or of both his person and property. [Guardians and Wards Act, 1890 (8 of 1890), s. 4(2)]

It means a person having the care of the person of a minor or of his property or of both his person and property, and includes--

(i) a natural guardian,

(ii) a guardian appointed by the Will of the minor's father or mother,

(iii) a guardian appointed or declared by a Court, and

(iv) a person empowered to act as such by or under any enactment relating to any Court of Wards. [Hindu Succession Act, 1956, s. 3 (1) (b)]

The guardian contemplated by this s. includes every kind of guardian known to law, Rosy Jacob v. Jacob A Chakranmal, AIR 1973 SC 2090 (2098): (1973) 1 SCC 840. (Guardian and Wards Act, 1889, s. 25)
