Fence, a hedge, ditch, or other inclosure of land for the better manurance and improvement of the same (Jac. Law Dict.) As to the larceny or malicious destruction of fences, see (English) Larceny Act, 1861 (24 & 25 Vict. c. 96), ss. 34, 35; (English) Larceny Act, 1916 (6 & 7 Geo. 5, c. 50), s. 8; and Malicious Damage Act, 1861 (24 & 25 Vict. c. 97), s. 25. See BARBED WIRE. The word is also used by criminals to denote a receiver of or dealer in stolen property.
