Dialogus De Scaccario

Dialogus de scaccario. This has generally passed as the work of Gervase of Tilbury; but Mr. Madox thinks it was written by Richard Fitz-Nigel, Bishop of London, who succeeded his father in the office of treasurer, in the reign of Richard I., and was therefore qualified for such an undertaking. This book treats, in a way of dialogue, of the whole establishment of the Exchequer, as a Court and an office of revenue; giving an exact and satisfactory account of the officers and their duties, with all matters concerning that Court, during its highest grandeur, in the reign of Henry II.
