Definition :

Detention, Detention in the context must mean keeping back a wife from her husband or any other person having the care of her on behalf of her husband with the requisite intention. Such keeping back may be by force; but it need not be by force, Union of India v. Steel Stock Holders Syndicate, (1976) 3 SCC 108: AIR 1976 SC 879: (1976) 3 SCR 504.
