Cottage, a small house without lands belonging to it. By 31 Eliz. C. 7 (repealed by 15 Geo. 3, c. 32, itself repealed by Stat. Law Rev.Act, 1871), 'An Act against the erecting and maintaining of cottages,' the building of any manner of cottage for habitation without four acres of ground to be continually occupied and manured therewith, was prohibited under a penalty of 10l. for each offence.
